Brun de Vian-Tiran is an eight generation manufacture located in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, in the South of France. The original mill was founded more than 200 years ago in 1808 by father, Charles Tiran, and son-in-law, Laurent Vian. Brun de Vian-Tiran revolutionized the blanket-making world in 1961 with the creation of the first Mohair blanket. In 2009, they were honored to receive the "Living Heritage Enterprise".
They are known as the factory of noble fibres as they now work with a wide range of outstanding fibers: mohair, wool, alpaca, camel, llama, cashmere and very rare materials like cashgora and yangir. Their mohair fiber comes from the hair of the Angora goat whose name originates from the Ankara region in Turkey.
Here are some interesting facts:
- Brun de Vian-Tiran blankets go through an average of 15 manufacturing steps: fiber blending, oiling, dying, carding, spinning, bobin winding, warping, weaving, fabric checking, fulling, washing, raising, drying, clipping and edge trimming.
- A total of more than 20 different countries supply the wools and fibers Brun de Vian-Tiran works with.
- After many years of research, Brun de Vian-Tiran rediscovered the most beautiful wool in France by identifying sheep breeders in Provence that had kept the genes of Spanish merino sheep imported by Louis XVI in 1786. Mérinos d'Arles Antiques® was born, a fiber exclusively produced for Brun de Vian-Tiran and the finest in Europe.
Brun de Vian-Tiran Code of Ethics:
The collection of fibers purchased by Brun de Vian-Tiran is carried out with respect for the animals and the animal populations involved.
The label "Textile de France" officially recognizes and guarantees that the articles have been completely manufactured in France.
The manufacturing of Brun de Vian-Tiran products is undertaken with full respect for the environment, in particular for the Sorgue river which has supplied pure water and the necessary energy for its fabric finishing since 1808.
Scientific studies over more than thirty years have proved that natural wool fibers possess a number of comfort qualities: temperature and humidity regulation, wear, softness, and volume never equalled by a synthetic fiber. No wool fiber allergy has ever been recorded and it has been demonstrated that wool does not favor the development of allergens. Brun de Vian-Tiran uses only natural fibers.
