Artisan Highlight

Louis Sicard

By a delicate marriage of earth, enamels and fire, Louis Sicard made the first earthenware cicada in Aubagne in 1895. He signed it with the phrase "The sun makes me sing" and from that point on the cicada became a symbol of Provence.

Today, the historic ceramic atelier is run by Florence and Marianne Amy. They continue the legacy left by Louis Sicard by creating new cicada collections, tableware and decorative objects in an array of vibrant colors reminiscent of the Provence region.
