Louis Sicard made the first earthenware cicada in Aubagne in 1895.
By a delicate marriage of earth, enamels and fire he created the first cicada on a branch that he signed with the motto "The Sun makes me sing". Louis Sicard then came to be called "The Father of the Cicadas".
One hundred and twenty years later, the earthenware cicada is known all over the world as a symbol of Provence.
For the past 45 years the manufacture Louis Sicard has been making these cicadas, which are entirely hand decorated, each with its own subtleties.
